7-Days Gorillas, Golden Monkey

This is all about the primates – from the chimpanzee capital of Kibale National Park – a place with a high concentration of primates, to the cold and misty mountains of Mgahinga and Bwindi. And that is not all – there are 10 other primate species you will be looking out for – from black and white colobus monkeys, red tail monkeys, and more await you.

What's Included

Your Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and welcome to Uganda

Welcome to Uganda where your adventure into the world of primates begins. Our guide will receive you at the airport and transfer to your accommodation. Depending on your arrival time into the country, you could take a relaxing evening in the gardens or simply take in the cool breeze from the world’s second largest freshwater body, Lake Victoria.

Day 2: Your adventure starts

Transfer to Kibale National Park in the west of Uganda. You will get to your accommodation on the edge of the Kibale National Park. In the afternoon take a nature walk in the Bigodi Wetland which is a sanctuary for colorful birds, and monkeys. The wetland sanctuary found next to the national park is a preview of what to expect when you go trekking in the park.

Day 3: Trek with the Chimps of Kibale Forest

Kibale National Park is most famous for the high concentration of chimpanzees. Your expert guide will share the secrets of the chimps and also look out for other primates such as L’Hoest’s, red colobus, red-tailed and blue monkeys. After lunch drive farther south as you transfer to Bwindi in the late afternoon.

Day 4: Track the great Mountain Gorillas

Head into the highland rainforests of Uganda to track the famous rare mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO world heritage site. Bwindi is a wildly diverse ancient rainforest and protects around half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas. This is an unforgettable experience.

Day 5: Seek out the Golden monkeys in Mgahinga

Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park to spend the day seeking out the golden monkeys. The golden monkeys have bright colored fur with long golden hair mixed with orange. This is the only park you will find them in Uganda.

In the afternoon transfer to Lake Mburo National Park and you should be getting there in the late afternoon.

Day 6: Walk up close to the wildlife

Set out early in the morning for a walking safari with your Guide in Lake Mburo National Park. Walking will bring you up close to the zebras and the giraffes—giving you a totally different experience compared to being in a game drive vehicle. In the afternoon, take a water safari on Lake Mburo and enjoy the wildlife and nature – watch out for hippos, crocodiles and lots of birds.

Day 7: Transfer to Entebbe

After an adventure with the great and beautiful primates of Uganda, it is now time to take the memories back home. After an easy breakfast, transfer back to Entebbe. You will make a stopover at the equator as you cross over from the southern to the northern hemisphere.
