Experience the enchanting allure of the iconic Queen Elizabeth National Park

This iconic park, also fondly known as the Medley of Wonders, is set in the background of the Africa’s third highest mountain, the Rwenzori Mountains. The park has a wide range of terrain features including volcanic craters, acacia woodlands, savannah grasslands, tropical forests and swamps. It is crossed by the Kazinga Channel which connects Lakes George and Edward. A safari boat cruise on this channel gives visitors an unparralled closeup view of wild herds of buffalo, elephants, birds and other wildlife.

Queen Elizabeth National Park covers an area of about 1,978 square kilometers. Established in 1952, it is named after Queen Elizabeth II and is one of Uganda’s most popular and diverse wildlife reserves. Highlights of Queen Elizabeth National Park:

Diverse Ecosystems: The park boasts a variety of ecosystems, including savannah grasslands, dense forests, wetlands, and lakeshores. This diversity supports a wide range of flora and fauna.

Wildlife: Queen Elizabeth National Park is home to a rich array of wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, hippos, and crocodiles. The park is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 600 bird species, making it one of the highest bird species concentrations in the world.

Tree-Climbing Lions: One of the unique attractions in the park is the opportunity to spot tree-climbing lions in the Ishasha sector. This behavior, where lions rest on tree branches, is not commonly observed elsewhere.

Kazinga Channel: The park is bisected by the Kazinga Channel, a natural waterway that connects Lake Edward and Lake George. The channel is a prime location for boat safaris, providing opportunities to see hippos, crocodiles, and various bird species along the shores.

Game Drives: Explore the park’s diverse ecosystems on a game drive. Morning and evening drives offer opportunities to spot lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and numerous antelope species.

Kyambura Gorge: This deep gorge is home to a population of habituated chimpanzees. Guided chimpanzee tracking is available, offering visitors a chance to observe these primates in their natural habitat.

Cultural Encounters: The park is surrounded by communities, and cultural experiences are available for those interested in learning about the local people’s traditions and way of life.

Mweya Peninsula: This is a popular area within the park with stunning views of the Kazinga Channel and the Rwenzori Mountains. Mweya Safari Lodge, situated on the peninsula, offers comfortable accommodation and is a great base for exploring the park.

Bird Watching: Queen Elizabeth National Park is a paradise for birdwatchers. Bring your binoculars to spot over 600 bird species, including the African Fish Eagle, African Skimmer, and the elusive Shoebill.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts, offering a blend of wildlife, landscapes, and cultural experiences. Whether it’s a game drive, boat safari, or a trek in the Kyambura Gorge, the park provides a memorable safari experience in Uganda.
